A small hawk is living along the lower cove road. I think it is a
sharp-shinned hawk. Its feathered breast was luminous gold in the late afternoon sunlight.

I was happy to see it, but the feeling wasn't mutual. It was determined to defend its territory from the likes of me.

I was an intruder who needed to be watched like a hawk.

It flew in patterns above my head and uttered its
screek! screek! so that I would go away. It's possible that its babies are still fledging, since it takes them ten weeks from birth to be able to fly. Later I saw it chase a crow or a raven away from somewhere in the forest. I'm not the only one this hawk has to watch out for.
