an island outhouse

It's true that our own outhouse blew over in that not-quite-a-hurricane event last weekend. But it got all fixed. To see it blown over and then right side up again, you can go on the Island Year Facebook page (you can click on it in the column on the right). In the meantime, on an island that has many truly fine outhouses, I've been meaning to show you the prettiest one. It's also the newest one. It belongs to Margot and Dave.

    I'm sure you've run across Sherman Hines "Outhouses of the East" - this lovely little building can compare with the best in his book.
    I particularly recall a totally decorated amenity I visited while at a farm auction near Mahone Bay - it was a typical Lunenburg outhouse - painted interior walls with bright enamel trim, a conventional toilet seat, shiny clean linoleum on the floor, and starched lace window curtains, topped off with several pungent deodorizers! And I also scored some great stuff at the auction!

    I think that's a solar light rather than a paint brush.
