Meanwhile, over in blog land, it's been time for a change. This online journal has been underway for almost two and a half years, so it's ancient in blog years, which are, I bet, similar to dog years. Anything this incredibly old can use a fresh look. I looked through my cache of pictures and chose the picture that's now on the banner, which was taken in June 2010. Since it includes stone walls, forest, apple tree, mysterious hanging wooden pulley, ferns, fog, an edge of my clothesline and one adorable beast, what more could I ask for?

I definitely like the new picture. I like all the pictures you put up. I painted one of them on a can and gave it to my daughter for Christmas. It was the one you took from the marshy area looking out over the water. (I recycle hot chocolate cans by painting them, as a word of explanation.)

Your new photo is spectacular. Has the old pulley been hanging there for decades or did you place it? It probably knows many island secrets.
The pulley was hanging in that tree when we first came to look around in 2006. We haven't moved it!
How puzzling. This update just arrived in my in-box, and it's dated March 1, 2011. Hmmmm.
I like your new photo...looks so fitting for the area. I used to live in Shelburne County and loved the area. Now living in Alabama and really miss the sea. Does anyone live in your house now and do you ever go back for a visit? I really enjoyed your husband's book. Is there any followup book in the works?

Forrest, thanks for the kind comments. Greg does have another manuscript (second book) and we are trying to decide whether just to go indie since we can't find a NS publisher for it. Yes, the house and all our lovely neighbours are still there. No, we don't go back to visit. That would be too sad for us. I think of this blog now as something that's been completed, just like our experience of living on the island has been completed. But I want to leave it up in case people enjoy wandering by for a visit.
